(a) Proposals for elimination of an existing traffic-control signal or
installation of a new traffic-control signal at a location where such
a device did not previously exist or where major repairs are required
at a cost in excess of $500 to a nonfunctioning or improper-functioning
traffic-control signal shall be first submitted to the Traffic Signal
Bureau of the Fire Department. The Superintendent of Signal Maintenance
shall determine the disposition of such proposal.
(b) Approval for elimination, installation or repair shall be made only
in compliance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD),
as established by the State Department of Transportation. Upon the
removal of any traffic-control signal, the Superintendent of Signal
Maintenance shall cause to be placed at the intersection any traffic-control
device which, in his opinion, is warranted.
