This chapter is adopted pursuant to the provisions of C.G.S.
§ 7-148.
The First Selectman is hereby authorized to establish firesafety
zones in places of public gathering, whether publicly or privately
owned. Such firesafety zones shall be so planned and located as to
allow adequate access for firefighting and emergency equipment at
all times. Such zones shall be marked upon the pavement, and the words
FIRESAFETY ZONE — NO PARKING AT ANY TIME shall be
clearly visible on the pavement within the boundaries which shall
be painted upon the pavement. Other signs and signposts drawing attention
to such firesafety zones may also be erected. In establishing such
firesafety zones, the First Selectman may consult with the Town Fire
Marshal and/or the Chiefs of the various organized Fire Departments
within the town.
Owners and occupiers of private property shall cooperate with
the First Selectman in arranging space for and permitting the marking
of such firesafety zones.

Any person who shall park a motor vehicle on a firesafety zone established in accordance with this chapter or shall obstruct free passage through any such fire zone or shall obliterate any signs or markings indicating any such fire zone shall be punishable as provided in §
187-4 of the Code of the Town of Barkhamsted.
