Editor's Note: Ordinance No. 7-95 originally adopted Ch. 58A, Fire Suppression and Key Boxes, as Ch. 59A. It has been redesignated to Ch. 58A in order to avoid renumbering of subsequent chapters.
All properties within the Borough of Clayton having an automatic fire suppression system shall be equipped with a key box.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
AUTOMATIC
Electronically sends a signal to the Fire Department, Police Department or Central Dispatch Center requesting response of the Fire Department.
A. 
Buildings of Use Groups R-3 and R-4, as described in the Uniform Construction Code, shall be exempt from this requirement.
B. 
Building owners exempt from this requirement may install a key box with the approval of the Fire Chief.
The key box shall be of a UL type and approved by Borough of Clayton Fire Official. The key box shall be installed in a location approved by Borough of Clayton Fire Chief or his designate.
The key box shall contain following:
A. 
Keys to locked points of egress, whether on the interior or exterior of such buildings.
B. 
Keys to locked mechanical equipment rooms.
C. 
Keys to locked electrical rooms.
D. 
Keys to elevator controls.
E. 
Keys to any fence or secured areas.
F. 
Keys to other areas as directed by the Borough of Clayton Fire Chief.
All existing buildings shall comply within six months of the effective date of this chapter. All newly constructed buildings, not yet occupied, or buildings currently under construction shall comply immediately.
Any building owner violating this chapter after notice from the Borough of Clayton Fire Official shall be subject to a penalty as set forth in the Uniform Fire Code.
