[Referendum of 11-6-1973]
The Mayor shall appoint a City Attorney, who shall be an attorney at law admitted to practice in the state of Connecticut and who shall have direct supervision over the Department of Law. The Mayor shall also appoint as many Assistant City Attorneys as may be provided by ordinance of the City of Milford, who shall be attorneys at law, admitted to practice in the State of Connecticut. The City Attorney shall be the legal advisor for the City and all departments, boards and officers of the City relating to their official duties. Upon written request he shall furnish them with a written opinion on any question of law involving their respective powers and duties. Upon request he shall prepare or approve forms of contracts or other instruments to which the City is a party or in which it has an interest. He shall appear for the City or any of its officers, boards or commissioners in any action brought by or against it or them and shall prosecute, defend or appeal the same or shall compromise or settle the same subject to the approval of the Board of Aldermen.
