The Fire Prevention Code shall be enforced by the Sanford Fire
Department or the Building Official. The Fire Chief or Chief Code
Enforcement Officer may detail such members as inspectors as shall
from time to time be necessary for the enforcement of said code. (25
M.R.S.A. § 2361)
The Board of Appeals shall act as the Fire Prevention Board of Appeals in order to hear appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the Building Official relative to application and interpretation of this code. Appeals to the Board of Appeals shall be submitted as otherwise set forth in City Code Chapter
10, regarding administrative appeals.
The Knox-Box® program in the City of Sanford shall be used
for access to buildings for emergency purposes only. The City of Sanford
Fire Chief or designee shall serve as the administrator for the Knox-Box®
program, as defined by the Knox Company. No person shall make application,
place into service, or continue use of any Knox branded product without
the written permission of the Sanford Fire Chief or designee. All
Knox products found in violation of this provision shall be removed
and discontinued.
A. Knox Box®
for multi-unit residential buildings. Any building having three or
more units shall have a Knox Box® installed and the keys shall
be made available for the fire department to install in the Know Box®.
Any apartment complex that has more than one building, shall have
a Knox Box® installed on each building. This section must be complied
with within one year of acceptance.
