The Police Department of the Borough of Riverside
shall consist of a Chief of Police and such other additional police
officer or officers as the said Borough Council shall from time to
time deem expedient to appoint.
The said Borough Council shall annually, at
their first regular meeting in each year, or as soon thereafter as
possible, appoint a Chief of Police and such other additional police
officer or officers as the Borough Council decides upon and shall
then and there fix the stipulated compensation to be paid to such
Chief of Police and of such other additional regular police officer
or officers, if any be thus appointed, respectively.
It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police
and of any and all other regular police officer or officers of the
Borough of Riverside to be first duly sworn and, when on active duty,
to wear such uniform and other regalia as may be at any time prescribed
and required by the Borough Council and to also wear the badge of
office required by law.
If the Chief of Police or any other police officer
or officers of the Borough of Riverside shall at any time fail to
properly demean himself or themselves, any such failure or neglect
shall be deemed a proper and sufficient cause for his or their immediate
discharge and dismissal by the said Borough Council from the Police
Force of the said Borough.
The provisions of this chapter shall take effect
immediately after its passage by the said Borough Council; provided,
however, that the present police officers shall hold their respective
offices until the expiration of the present term thereof, respectively.
The offices of the present police officers expire at the first regular
meeting of 1959.
