The Alternative Energy Overlay District is designed to encourage
the development of low-impact renewable energy projects that are beneficial
to the community while remaining compatible with the City's sensitive
coastal environment.
All alternative-energy-oriented land uses within the Overlay District are subject to the issuance of a conditional use permit, as provided in Part
5, Article
XXVI, of this chapter. The construction of electrical generating facilities using renewable forms of energy such as solar, radiation, wind and water, including experimental and demonstration projects, are encouraged, provided that the facilities do not significantly detract from the scenic, recreational or environmental value of the land.
Temporary uses are permitted in the Overlay District if required for the operation of the principal use and subject to the provisions set forth in §
163-69 of this chapter.
All development shall comply with the applicable performance standards set forth in §
163-73 of this chapter.
