The Department of Emergency Management is established in accordance with §
A-304 of the Melrose Administrative Code.
There is hereby established an Emergency Management Advisory
Council, hereinafter called the "Council." The Council shall serve
without pay and shall consist of the Director of Emergency Management
and such other department heads and such other persons as the Mayor
may deem necessary. Such member of the Council as the Mayor may designate
shall serve as Chair of the Council. The Council shall serve subject
to the direction and control of the Mayor and shall advise the Mayor
and the directors on matters pertaining to emergency management.
Persons appointed to serve as auxiliary police officers of the
City under authority of Clause (a) of Section 11 of Chapter 639 of
the Acts of 1950 shall, while on duty, and subject to the provisions
of such Chapter 639, have all the powers of regular police officers
of the City. The terms of all persons so appointed shall expire on
the first Monday in March next following the date of their appointment.
The Police Department is hereby authorized to go to aid another
city or town at the request of such city or town in the suppression
of riots or other forms of violence therein.
This chapter shall remain in force during the effective period
of Chapter 639, Acts of 1950, and any act in amendment or continuation
thereof or substitution therefor.
All references to Chapter 639, Acts of 1950, as now in force,
shall be applicable to any act or acts in amendment or continuation
of or substitution for such Chapter 639.
