A. All new buildings in the Town of Wheatfield that are commercial,
retail, industrial or multiunit residential buildings with four or
more units constructed, altered or changed in use after the effective
date of this article shall have installed a Knox-Box® key system
in an approved location. Such key systems shall be installed prior
to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy.
B. All buildings in the Town of Wheatfield that are commercial, retail,
industrial businesses with 20 or more employees or with 10,000 or
more square feet of space or multiunit residential buildings with
four or more units constructed before the effective date of this article
shall have 180 days from the adoption of this article to install a
Knox-Box® key system in an approved location.
C. The Knox-Box® key system shall be approved by the Fire Advisory
Chair, and, in order to maintain uniformity throughout the Town, the
order forms for said key system must be obtained from the Town Building
Department.
D. All Knox-Box® key systems must be mounted by the front, main
entrance of the structure and must be placed at eye level.
All Knox-Box® key systems must contain:
A. A master key to locked points of ingress, whether points are on the
exterior or interior of the structure.
C. Keys to the alarm pull station.
D. Keys to the elevators (if applicable).
(1) If the elevator key does not fit in the Knox-Box®, it may be
placed in the mechanical room, and this location must be included
in the box.
E. Emergency contact information for the business, including the name,
address and telephone number for the owner.
F. The layout of the structure showing the above-referenced locations.
