A. 
The Commission on Tourism shall consist of not fewer than five and no more than 25 members, one of whom shall be a member of the Pittsfield City Council. In accordance with Article 2, Section 2-10; Article 3, Section 3-3; and Article 6 of the City Charter, the Mayor shall appoint all members to the Commission on Tourism, subject to City Council approval. In accordance with Article 10, Section 10-6(a), of the City Charter, the members of the Commission on Tourism shall elect from the membership a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, a Secretary and any other officers that the membership deems necessary.
B. 
In making appointments to the Commission, the Mayor shall seek to find members with an expertise which can contribute to the purposes for which this Commission has been established.

Excepting the City Councilor, who shall serve for as long as they are a City Councilor, each member shall serve a term of three years. In the event of a vacancy, the Mayor shall appoint a successor as soon as practicable, subject to City Council approval, and said successor shall fulfill the unexpired term of the member whose seat was vacated.

All present and future members of the Commission on Tourism shall be classified as "special municipal employes" as that term is defined by MGL c. 268A, § 1(n), as amended. Such classification shall apply to Commission members only in the performance of their powers and duties as outlined in Chapter 2, Article XLII, of the Code of the City of Pittsfield.

The function of the Commission on Tourism shall be to encourage and stimulate tourism and to promote and market the City of Pittsfield for the purposes of vacation, visitor, recreation, and convention business. The Commission shall seek to find new ways to attract visitors and tourists to the City and to provide services to the City's visitors and tourists. In furtherance of these purposes, the Commission shall collaborate with 1Berkshire and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.

The Commission shall establish rules governing its meetings in accordance with Article 10, Section 10-6(b), of the City Charter. The Commission on Tourism shall meet quarterly.

The Chairperson is authorized to appoint members to serve on committees as needed. The committees shall be formed to further the function and duties of the Commission as stated in Section 2-243. The committees shall make recommendations to the Commission, which shall be subject to the review and approval of the Commission. The committees may be dissolved at the Chairperson's discretion. Each committee shall consist of at least one Commission member.
