HAWKER AND PEDDLER — Any person, either principal or agent, who goes from town to town or from place to place in the same town carrying for sale or barter any goods, wares or merchandise either on foot, on or from any animal or vehicle, not in a fixed location.
PROMOTER — A business or person who operates for the purpose of either directly or indirectly renting, leasing, or granting a license to use space to any vendor for the display for sale or for the sale of tangible personal property or services subject to tax under MGL c. 64; and before commencing business as a promoter must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
SHOW — A flea market, craft show, antique show, art show, coin show, stamp show, comic show, and any similar show, either indoor or outdoor, whether held regularly or of a temporary nature, at which more than one vendor displays for sale or sells tangible personal project subject to tax.
TAG SALE — The privately operated sale of household goods and furnishings by an individual for a period of no more than three days within any three-month period of any calendar year.
TEMPORARY BUSINESS — The sale of goods, wares, or merchandise which is carried on in any building, structure, motor vehicle, tent, hotel room, apartment, shop, or on any street, alley, parking lot, plaza, park, or other place within the City, unless such place is open for business during usual business hours for a period of at least 12 consecutive months. For purposes of this article, a temporary business shall not include a privately operated tag sale or estate sale of household goods and furnishings, a trade or hobby show exhibition of no more than three days, any temporary sale conducted by a duly registered nonprofit organization, or a "sidewalk sale" of merchandise sold by a permanent business where such merchandise is customarily sold inside the premises.
TRANSIENT VENDOR — As any person, firm, or corporation, whether as owner, agent, consignee, or employee, whether a resident of the City or not, who engages in a temporary business of selling and delivering goods, wares, and merchandise within the City, either in one locality or in traveling from place to place.
