This article shall be known as "Local Law No. 1 of 2012, A Local
Law for Administration of the Housing Maintenance Regulations," to
enhance and protect the safety, health and welfare of the residential
neighborhoods of the Village of Central Square.
This article provides for the administration of the housing
maintenance regulations contained in the New York State Uniform Fire
Prevention and Building Code to enhance and protect the safety, health
and welfare of the residential neighborhoods of the Village of Central
Square.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
RENTAL DWELLING UNIT
Any dwelling in the Village that is occupied for housekeeping
purposes by someone other than the owner of the property, including
one- or two-family dwellings, multiple dwellings or mixed-use residential
use buildings.
All structures containing rental dwelling units shall be inspected for compliance with the housing maintenance provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code or other law or regulation at least once each 36 months, and upon the request of any owner or tenant, or at any time prior to the issuance of a certificate of compliance required by §
136-5 of this article.

A. The violation of any of the provisions of this chapter shall be deemed
an offense, and upon such conviction, such offender may be punished
by a fine not to exceed $250 or imprisonment for not more than 15
days, or both. For a repeat offender, the maximum penalty shall be
two times that set forth in this section. In either case, each day
that such violation shall continue shall constitute a separate violation.
B. The foregoing shall not be deemed the sole right and remedy of Village
relative to enforcement, and the Village may also, or alternatively,
assert and pursue any other rights, any and all civil or criminal
actions, proceedings or remedies available at law.
