The purpose of this Article is to ensure access to local police and fire department emergency telephone lines used by the public and to regulate the use of said lines by certain automatic alarm devices.
No fire or police alarm device which is a telephone device or telephone attachment that automatically or electronically selects a telephone line connected to the Village of Washingtonville Fire District or Police Department and reproduces a prerecorded message to report a criminal act or other emergency requiring Police Department or Fire District response shall be connected to or use any telephone line connected to the Police Department or Fire District of the Village of Washingtonville, except those lines, if any, authorized by the village.
The owner and lessee of any such fire or police alarm device which is connected, either directly or indirectly, to the Police Department or Fire District of the Village of Washingtonville by a telephone line which has not been authorized for use for such purpose in violation of this Article shall be guilty of a violation punishable by a fine not to exceed $250 for each offense or imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both. A separate offense shall be deemed committed upon each day during which a violation occurs or is committed.
