There is hereby established a principal division to be known as the Housing Division of the Planning Department.

The Supervisor of Housing shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by the City Council, for a term of three years and until a successor in office is appointed and qualified. Such term shall commence on the first Monday in March, and the appointment shall be made by the Mayor on or before the first Monday in February.

The Housing Division of the Planning Department shall be responsible for promoting and financing the development of affordable rental and ownership housing, creating new opportunities for homebuyers through education and financing, preserving the long-term affordability of existing publicly assisted housing, improving the City's housing stock through its housing rehabilitation initiatives, developing and implementing programs designed to increase access to affordable housing for Waltham residents, supporting nonprofits in the development and management of affordable housing, coordinating with the federal and state governments to bring additional resources to housing programs and providing planning assistance and public information related to housing issues.
