Where a public sanitary sewer is not available under the provisions of § 102-5, the building sewer shall be connected to a private sewage disposal system complying with the requirements of any local law, local ordinance and/or the requirements of the New York State Department of Health dealing with septic tank installations.
The installation of the private sewage disposal system shall be completed to the satisfaction of the Inspector. The Inspector shall be allowed to review the work at any stage of construction. The work shall be reviewed by the Inspector before any underground portions are covered, and the person performing such work shall notify the Inspectors when the installation is completed.
At such time as a public sewer becomes available to a property served by a private sewage disposal system, as provided in § 102-5, a direct connection shall be made to the public sewer in compliance with this Part 1, and any septic tanks, cesspools and similar private sewage disposal facilities shall be abandoned and filled with suitable backfill material within 90 days after the direct connection is made to the public sewer.
No statement contained in this Part 1 shall be construed to interfere with any additional requirements that may be imposed by the authorized representative of the New York State Department of Health.
