The Municipal Judge shall hear and determine cases or controversies
arising under municipal ordinances.

The Municipal Judge shall devote the time necessary to carry
out the business of the court (which is to include preparation and
training) in a timely and efficient fashion. The Judge shall set hours
in a manner that is conducive to the needs and demands of the public.

The compensation of the Municipal Judge of the City of Socorro
shall be $2,667 per month.
During any absence of the Municipal Judge for a period of six
weeks or longer, or upon the temporary incapacity of the Municipal
Judge, the City Council, upon the recommendation of the Mayor, shall
appoint a Temporary Municipal Judge. The Temporary Judge shall be
a registered voter of the City of Socorro, and the Temporary Judge
shall be paid the same compensation the elected Municipal Judge would
have received during the period of absence or incapacity.
The Municipal Judge elected to a full term of office at the
March 7, 2000, regular municipal election, and the Municipal Judge's
successors, shall be bound to the provisions of this chapter.
Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to prohibit or preclude
the payment of per-diem and mileage or actual expenses of the Municipal
Judge traveling on official business of the City of Socorro and approved
by the governing body.
