A. 
The Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Brooklawn may receive an annual salary as may be provided by way of the Salary Ordinance, which may be passed by the Mayor and Borough Council.
B. 
The members of the Brooklawn Planning Board and/or Brooklawn Board of Health shall receive a stipend for attendance at the monthly meetings of the Brooklawn Planning Board and/or Brooklawn Board of Health, as may be provided by way of the Salary Ordinance[1] which may be passed by the Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Brooklawn.

The Borough Council of the Borough of Brooklawn, by majority vote, shall have the authority to grant excused absences from regular meetings of the Borough Council to enable members of the Borough Council to attend other municipal functions, or in the event of sickness and/or death, or any other circumstance that in the judgment of the Borough Council warrants an excused absence from a meeting of the Borough Council. The Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Brooklawn shall, within three hours of the commencement of the meeting, communicate with the Borough Clerk as to his/her intended absence from the meeting, and the reason(s) therefor.
A. 
All unexcused absences of the Mayor or members of Borough Council shall be recorded by the Borough Clerk and transmitted to the Municipal Finance Officer within five days of the unexcused absence for deduction from the annual salary of the elected official as defined in the adopted Salary Ordinance. For purposes of deductions from annual salary, the Municipal Finance Officer will divide the number of public meetings scheduled for the year into the annual salary to determine the amount of deduction for each unexcused absence.
B. 
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:16-3 et seq., whenever the Mayor or a member of the Borough Council of the Borough of Brooklawn fails to attend and participate in any meetings of the Borough Council for a period of eight consecutive weeks or four consecutive meetings, whichever is greater, without being excused from attendance by a majority of the members of Borough Council, the position of Mayor or member of Borough Council shall be deemed vacant at the conclusion of such period; provided, however, that the Borough Council may refuse to excuse only with respect to those failures to attend and participate which are not due to legitimate illness or upon a determination that the office comes within the purview of N.J.S.A. 19:3-25.
C. 
Whenever a Class II, III or IV member of the Planning Board of the Borough of Brooklawn fails to attend and participate in four consecutive meetings of the Planning Board, without being excused from attendance by the Planning Board Chairman, the position of member of the Brooklawn Planning Board shall be deemed vacant at the conclusion of such period. The Planning Board Secretary shall, within five days of the conclusion of this period, notify the Borough Clerk of this Planning Board vacancy.
D. 
Whenever a member of the Board of Health of the Borough of Brooklawn fails to attend and participate in four consecutive meetings of the Board of Health, without being excused from attendance by the Board of Health Chairman, the position of member of Brooklawn Board of Health shall be deemed vacant at the conclusion of such period. The Board of Health Secretary shall, within five days of the conclusion of this period, notify the Borough Clerk of this Board of Health vacancy.
