The inhabitants of the City of Ste. Genevieve, as its limits now are or may hereafter be defined by law, shall be and continue a body corporate by the name of "The City of Ste Genevieve" and as such shall have perpetual succession, may sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, defend and be defended in all courts of law and equity and in all actions whatever; may receive and hold property, both real and personal, within such City and may purchase, receive and hold real estate within or without such City for the burial of the dead; and may purchase, hold, lease, sell or otherwise dispose of any property, real or personal, it now owns or may hereafter acquire; may receive bequests, gifts and donations of all kinds of property; and may have and hold one (1) common Seal and may break, change or alter the same at pleasure; and may do any act, exercise any power and render any service which contributes to the general welfare, and all courts of this State shall take judicial notice thereof.

The territorial boundaries of the City shall be those as are presently established or as are hereafter established by ordinance, which ordinances are on file in the office of the City Clerk.

A. 
The common Seal of the City shall be of circular shape, one and one-half (1½) inches in diameter, with a device engraved thereon of the factory building surrounded by the words "Seal of the City of Ste. Genevieve" in Roman capitals engraved upon the face thereof.
B. 
The City Clerk shall be the keeper of the common Seal of the City and any impression of said seal to any contract or other writing shall have no validity or binding obligation upon the City unless such impression be accompanied by the attestation and signature of the City Clerk and then only in cases authorized by law or the ordinances of the City.

The second (2nd) full weekend of August of each year is hereby designated and reserved in the City as Jour de Fete a Ste. Genevieve weekend. Such weekend shall be set aside for the annual celebration known as Jour de Fete a Ste. Genevieve or Jour de Fete.

No action shall be maintained against the City on account of any injuries growing out of any defect or unsafe condition of or on any bridge, boulevard, street, sidewalk or thoroughfare in such City until notice shall first have been given in writing to the Mayor within ninety (90) days of the occurrence for which the damage is claimed stating the place where, the time when such injury was received and the character and circumstances of the injury and that the person so injured will claim damages therefor from the City.
