[Adopted 2-11-1974 by L.L. No. 1-1974 (Ch. 21A of the 1965 Code)]
The Town of Lewiston has long controlled and restricted advertising signs within the Town, both as a matter of public safety and to beautify the highways and road sides within the Town. The display of political advertising, either of candidates for elective office, political parties or political causes, and the frequent failure of candidates and their supporters to remove such signs or displays after the election involved has passed, is hereby found to affect the public safety as well as to mar the natural beauty of the countryside.
[Amended 5-28-1997 by L.L. No. 2-1997]
The erection or display of any sign, placard, poster or other display urging support of any candidate for public office or of any political party or political cause, erected in any public thoroughfare, on public property or erected or affixed to any telephone pole, electric light pole, road sign or post, likely to attract the attention of the public while traveling along any public highway within the Town of Lewiston is hereby prohibited.
[Amended 5-28-1997 by L.L. No. 2-1997]
The erection or display or any sign, placard, poster or other display urging support of any candidate for public office or of any political party or political cause, erected on private property, is permitted.
A.
