This is a position in which an employee maintains and repairs
water and wastewater equipment. This position reports to the Utilities
Director.
The Utility Maintenance Operator performs routine and/or emergency
repairs of water and wastewater equipment, while performing the following
tasks:
A. Performs maintenance and repair of water and wastewater equipment
used in the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater and the
production and distribution of water supplies.
B. Performs maintenance and repair of related components and equipment.
C. Repairs and maintains pumps, motors, blowers, chlorine and ultraviolet
disinfection systems, valves, piping and related equipment using standard
and specialized tools.
D. Maintains accurate work order files and logs.
E. Submits purchase requisitions for parts and supplies.
F. Assists other operators in the operation and maintenance of water
and wastewater systems.
G. Must be available for responding to emergency situations on a twenty-four-hour
basis.
H. Performs related duties as assigned; required to perform stand-by
duty.
The minimum qualifications for the Utility Maintenance Operator
are:
A. Any combination of education above the high school level, training
and/or experience in current water/wastewater systems and operating
procedures; system processes and equipment; tools and equipment involved
in the servicing, maintenance and repair of the systems; installation,
maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, safety and installation
codes; use and care of electrical equipment as well as power and hand
tools.
B. High school diploma or GED and four years of full-time experience
in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
C. Eighteen years of age, proved by a birth certificate or other acceptable
legal documentation as proof of age.
D. Citizenship in the United States or alien work status documents pursuant
to the federal immigration laws is required.
E. Possession of a valid, unrestricted New Mexico driver's license.
F. Basic knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices
in the wastewater operations and maintenance field.
G. Ability to operate powered and manual equipment and tools used in
wastewater operations; to present information clearly and concisely,
orally and in writing; to establish effective working relationships
with associates and the public.
Work is outside and inside, sometimes in inclement weather.
Employees are exposed to chemicals, toxic gases and fumes, and to
infections and diseases. The employee may be required to lift up to
100 pounds. Irregular working hours are required.
There will be a six-month probationary period, at which time
an evaluation of job performance will be conducted and discussed with
the employee. At this time, the employee will be either made a regular
employee, be allowed to continue on probationary period, not to exceed
one year total, or be terminated based on evaluation results.
