[CC 1984 §2.660]
The Mayor, with the approval of a majority of the Board of Aldermen,
may appoint some practicing attorney at law, authorized to practice
law in the State of Missouri, as City Attorney. The City Attorney
shall hold office for one (1) year or until his/her successor is appointed
and qualified; he/she shall take and subscribe the oath as is required
for any other City Officer.

It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to advise the City
Officers and the Board of Aldermen upon all questions of law affecting
the City interests; the duties of the officers of the City; to attend
the meetings of the Board of Aldermen when requested to do so; to
prosecute all offenders against the provisions of this Code and other
City ordinances; to prosecute or defend all suits for the collection
of general or special taxes; and to do all other things of him/her
required by law.

The Mayor, with the consent of the Board of Aldermen, shall
have the authority to appoint special counsel.
