The intent of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Athens is to abolish and terminate the Athens Village Court System and Village Justice position pursuant to its authority under the New York State Village Law §§ 3-301, 3-302 and 3-303. It is the intent of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Athens to terminate the Village Justice position, which is due for election on or about March 15, 2011. The Village Justice position would continue until on or about April 3, 2011, when the present term is due to expire. On or about April 3, 2011, the Athens Village Justice Court System shall cease to exist.
Effective April 3, 2011, the Village Justice position due for election on or about March 15, 2011, shall terminate. Also effective on or about April 3, 2011, the Acting Village Justice, if any, Village Court Clerk and all supportive services and staff shall cease to exist.
On or after April 3, 2011, all matters necessitating the intervention of the local justice court system, both criminal and civil actions, originating in the Village of Athens or once adjudicated in the Village of Athens Court System, shall be docketed in the Town of Athens Justice Court by virtue of the Village Athens being located entirely within the boundaries of the Town of Athens.
