The Board of Trustees finds that the New York State Legislature
has enacted the Superstorm Sandy Assessment Relief Act (Chapter 424
of the Laws of 2013) which authorizes the Board of Trustees to adopt
a local law granting assessment relief to village property owners
suffering damage from Superstorm Sandy. The Board further finds that
pursuant to said state law, the appropriate threshold for assessment
relief is storm-related damage of not less than 50% of the improved
value of each property.
Pursuant to Section 3 of Chapter 424 of the Laws of 2013, the
Board of Trustees of the Village of Amityville hereby adopts the provisions
of said chapter as to assessment relief for Village tax purposes for
real property located within the Village of Amityville.
The Board of Trustees hereby elects to provide assessment relief
for all real property within the Village that lost at least 50% of
its improved value due to Superstorm Sandy in accordance with the
applicable provisions of said Chapter 424. The procedure for obtaining
such relief shall be as set forth in said chapter.
