As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER
A law enforcement officer who is a member of a duly authorized Police Department and who is employed full-time by a unit of local government for 1,560 hours or more per twelve-month period beginning on the first of January of any calendar year.
PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER
A law enforcement officer who is a member of a duly authorized Police Department and who is employed part-time by a unit of local government for 1,000 hours or less per twelve-month period beginning on the first of January of any calendar year.

POLICE EXPERIENCE
Employment as a full-time police officer in a duly authorized Police Department as a law enforcement officer whose primary responsibility has included, but not limited to, the prevention or detection of crime and the enforcement of the Criminal Code, traffic, or highway laws of the State of Illinois or any political subdivision.
It is the policy of the Village to limit the employment of part-time police officers for the Village to those persons who are state-certified police officers who meet the requirements of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Additionally, no person shall be hired as a part-time police officer of the Village unless such person shall have a minimum of three years of police experience at the time of his or her appointment.
