[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 1]
This Part shall be known as the "Shrewsbury Township House Numbering
Ordinance."
[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 2]
It shall be unlawful for the owner of any residential or business
property to fail to maintain street numbering signs posted in accordance
with the requirements of this Part.
[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 3]
Street numbers for dwelling units and places of business shall
be assigned by the Township, which shall keep a record of all numbers
assigned under this Part.
[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 4]
The owner or owners of any dwelling or place of business to which a number has been assigned by the Township will be notified in writing by the Township of the number assigned to such dwelling or place of business. Within 60 days following the date of the sending of notice by the Township, the owner of such dwelling or place of business to which a number has been assigned, shall affix street number signs at the location and in the size set forth in §
4-105 of this Part.
[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 5]
In the event the dwelling or place of business is located less
than 50 feet from the line of a public road, the owner or owners shall
affix a numbering sign with block numbers four inches high on the
front of the dwelling or place of business at such a location as to
be visible from the public road and, in addition, shall affix a numbering
sign to the mailbox in a conspicuous location or locations so as to
be visible to the traveling public. Under normal circumstances such
number signs shall be in block numbers at least one-inch in size and
shall be affixed to both sides of the mailbox serving such dwelling
or place of business, but deviations may occur if such placement is
impractical. If the dwelling or place of business is located more
than 50 feet from the line of a public road, in lieu of placing a
numbering sign with four-inch block numbers on the dwelling itself,
such sign shall be placed in a conspicuous location near to the juncture
of the driveway providing vehicular access to such dwelling or place
of business and the public road. Any numbering signs which are destroyed
or otherwise removed shall be replaced within 30 days following such
destruction or removal. In the case of a new dwelling constructed
after the effective date of this Part or a new business constructed
or proposed to be opened after the effective date of this Part, no
certificate of use and occupancy shall be issued until numbers have
been assigned such dwelling or place of business by the Township and
such numbers have been posted and displayed in accordance with the
requirements of this Part.
[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 6; as amended by Ord. 2008-02,
8/6/2008]
Private roads providing access for more than one dwelling or
place of business. Owners of properties whose access is provided by
a private road which provides access for more than one family or business
must comply with the following procedures:
A. The owners of such properties must agree upon a road name (short
names are preferable) and submit the agreed upon name to the Shrewsbury
Township Board of Supervisors for a determination as to whether or
not there is an identical road name in Shrewsbury Township or in the
Shrewsbury Township area. If the Supervisors find the name represents
such duplication, the owners shall be directed to agree upon another
name. If the Township Supervisors have not received an agreed upon
name acceptable to such Supervisors within 60 days following the enactment
of this Part, the Township Supervisors shall decide upon a road name.
B. The owners of properties whose access is provided by such private
road shall provide at their expense a road name sign which must be
white letters on blue aluminum blank together with an aluminum attaching
fixture and a steel post. These signs and posts will be available
through Shrewsbury Township, and the cost of the sign will be based
on the number of letters in the sign for private drive. The Township
will provide and install the sign, attaching fixture and steel post
at the property owners' expense. Such property owners shall be
jointly and severally responsible for compliance with this requirement.
C. The owner of each dwelling or place of business whose access is provided by such private road shall place street number signs in front of such dwelling or place of business in a manner consistent with the requirements set forth in §
4-105 of this Part.
[Ord. 96-9, 4/3/1996, § 7; as amended by Ord. 2008-02,
8/6/2008]
Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate any provision
of this Part, upon conviction thereof in an action brought before
a magisterial district judge in the manner provided for the enforcement
of summary offenses under the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure,
shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000 plus costs
and, in default of payment of said fine and costs, to a term of imprisonment
not to exceed 90 days. Each day that a violation of this Part continues
or each Section of this Part which shall be found to have been violated
shall constitute a separate offense.
