[Code 1991, § 8-116]
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this division,
shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where
the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
DWELLING UNIT
A single unit providing complete independent living facilities
for one or more persons, including permanent provisions for living,
sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation.
OWNER
One or more persons, jointly or severally, in whom is vested:
A.
All or part of the legal title to the property.
B.
All or part of the beneficial ownership and a right to present
use and enjoyment of the premises. The term shall include a mortgagee
only when in possession.
SMOKE DETECTOR
A mechanical device capable of sensing visible or invisible
products of combustion and which sounds an audible alarm upon such
detection. Such a device may be powered by alternating current or
by battery. All smoke detectors shall be of a type that has been approved
by either Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., or the Factory Mutual
Company.

The Fire Marshal or his duly authorized representative shall
administer and enforce this division.
