This article shall be entitled "A Local Law Abolishing the Positions
of Elected Assessor and Providing for One Elected Assessor in the
Town of North East."
Pursuant to, and in accordance with, the provisions of §§ 310
and 329 of the Real Property Tax Law, the Town of North East does
hereby provide that, from and after the first day of January 2002,
there shall be but one Assessor, to be elected at the biannual Town
or General Election next following the effective date of this article.
The term of office of the sole elected Assessor shall be six
years. The first term of six years shall commence on January 1, 2002.
Each successive six-year term shall commence on the first day of January
in the year following the biannual Town or General Election to be
held in the year coinciding with the end of each successive six-year
term at which the Assessor shall be elected.
On December 31, 2001, the term or terms of office of all Assessors
then in office in the Town of North East shall terminate.

This article shall be entitled "The Local Law Increasing the
Number of Members of the Board of Assessment Review From Three to
Five."
The Town of North East has established a Board of Assessment
Review and, currently, there are three members of that Board. The
term of one of the members expires on September 30, 2008; the term
of the second member expires on September 30, 2009; and the term of
the third member expires on September 30, 2009. The Town Board wishes
to increase the number of members of the Board of Assessment review
from three members to five members, in accordance with the provisions
of § 523(1)(b) of the Real Property Tax Law, and to establish
terms of office which are consistent with the requirements of § 523(1)(c)
of the Real Property Tax Law.
The membership of the Town of North East Board of Assessment
Review is hereby increased from three members to five members.
The appointment of the two additional members of the Town Board
shall be by resolution of the Town Board, and the appointment shall
be made so that one of the two new member's initial term shall expire
on September 30, 2007, and the other new member's initial term shall
expire on September 30, 2011. Thereafter, on the expiration of the
initial terms of the two new Board members, any member reappointed,
or any new member appointed to fill that expired term, shall be appointed
for a term of five years.
