For the purpose of this chapter the following may be erected or installed and maintained without a permit or fee, provided that they comply with the general provisions of §
110-36.
A. Attached signs, identifying the resident and/or their address mounted on the building or mail box, not exceeding two square feet in area. Signs shall be nonilluminated and contain no other information.
B. Detached signs identifying the resident and/or their address, not exceeding three square feet in area. Signs shall be nonilluminated and contain no other information.
C. On-premises directional signs for the convenience of the general public, identifying public parking areas, fire zones, handicapped spaces and similar signs. Signs shall be nonilluminated and not exceed three square feet in area and six feet in height. Such signs shall not include business or personal names, logos or other similar information.
D. Historic markers, plaques, tablets, etc., containing the names of buildings, dates of erection and other historical data when installed by governmental agencies or nonprofit organizations not to exceed six square feet in area.
E. Christmas and other holiday or seasonal decorations, including lighting, that do not remain in place for more than 60 days.
F. Nonilluminated real estate "for sale," "for rent" and "for lease" signs concerning the premises upon which the sign is located. No more than one sign not to exceed 12 square feet in area. All signs shall be removed within three days after the sale, rental or lease of the premises.
G. Nonilluminated signs listing the architect, engineer, contractor, financing institution and/or owner on the premises where construction, renovation or repair is being performed. No more than one sign, not exceeding 12 square feet in area, shall be permitted. All signs shall be removed within three days after the completion of the work.
H. Nonilluminated temporary private-owned merchandise sale signs for garage sales, auctions, etc., not exceeding four square feet in area. All signs shall be removed within three days after the event has ended.
I. Nonilluminated temporary educational, charitable, civic, religious and political signs not exceeding four square feet in area. No sign shall be installed more than 21 days before the event or election and shall be removed within five days after the event or election. All such signs shall contain the name and address of the person responsible for removal.
J. Window signs where the area of the signs does not exceed 25% of the total area of the glass or other window material.
K. Sandwich board signs when there is no more than one sign with an overall dimension not exceeding two feet wide by three feet high, it is located on the sidewalk in front of the premises, it does not impede or interfere with pedestrian movement and it is displayed only when the advertised premises is open to the public.
L. Banners, windsocks, mobiles, flags or similar devices when there is no more than one per address, it does not project beyond the property lines, it is not illuminated and it does not advertise directly or indirectly a use conducted or goods, products, services or facilities available either on that property or any other.
