The title of this article shall be the "Union Township Parking
Ordinance."
The purpose of this article is to regulate parking of motor
vehicles, etc., within intersections, places where the Township erects
"No Parking" signs, etc., and is more specifically set forth herein.
The words set forth in this article shall be defined in all
cases by language of the Motor Vehicle Code and, in other cases where
no definition exists in said code, by common everyday usage.
Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or
to protect the safety of any person or vehicle, or in compliance with
law or the direction of a police officer or official traffic control
device, the following prohibitions shall be in effect:
A. Stopping, standing or parking a vehicle is expressly prohibited under
the following circumstances:
(1) On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge
or curb of the street.
(5) Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction which
would obstruct traffic.
(6) Upon any bridge or other elevated structure.
(7) On public or private property which is expressly reserved for handicapped
persons or disabled veterans, where said property has been posted
in accordance with the regulations of the Pennsylvania Department
of Transportation.
(8) At any place where official signs prohibit same.
B. Standing and parking vehicles is expressly prohibited under the following
circumstances:
(1) In front of a public or private driveway.
(2) Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
(3) Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
(4) Within 30 feet of any flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign or traffic
control signal located at the site of a roadway.
(5) Within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station or, when
properly posted, on the side of a street opposite the entrance of
any fire station within 75 feet of the entrance.
(6) At any place where official signs prohibit same.
Following the effective date of this article, and subject to
the limitation set forth in Subsection B of this section, it shall
be unlawful:
A. To park or allow to be parked any motor vehicle or other vehicle
on any street within the Township during any accumulation of ice or
plowable snow until the snow has been completely plowed for the full
width of the cartway.
B. On those streets within the Township where only on-street parking
is available, the following regulations shall apply during any accumulation
of ice or plowable snow:
(1) All motor vehicles shall be parked on the even address side of the
street on even-numbered calendar days following such accumulation
as is mentioned above and on the odd address side of the street on
odd-numbered calendar days following such accumulation.
