For all residential subdivisions of five or more lots where
public water is not provided, the subdivider shall, at his or her
expense, provide water supplies for fire protection in accordance
with the following criteria:
A. Every resident in the subdivision shall be within 1,000 feet as measured
along the streets and driveways to an adequate and reliable water
supply for fire protection. For large subdivisions, more than one
adequate and reliable water supply source may be necessary.
B. Alternative supplies.
(1) An adequate and reliable water supply for fire protection shall consist
of the following alternatives:
(a)
Underground storage tank(s) or cisterns.
(b)
Fire ponds or retention basins.
(2) Alternative methods of providing an adequate and reliable water supply
source may be submitted by the applicant to the Planning Board after
the applicant has submitted the same to the Fire Subcode Official
and the Knowlton Township Fire Department for their comments and reviews.
Said alternative methods shall be in accordance with acceptable standards
as outlined in NFPA 1231 Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and
Rural Fire Fighting, latest edition, and NFPA 24 Standard for the
Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances,
latest edition.
C. Sizing of all adequate and reliable water supply sources shall be in accordance with Chapters
3, 4, 5 and 6 of the NFPA 1231 Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and Rural Fire Fighting, latest edition, and NFPA 24 Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances, latest edition, except that a water supply for underground storage tanks shall not be less than 10,000 gallons.
D. The installation of man-made adequate and reliable water supply sources
and such infrastructure necessary to deliver water to the fire site
from either natural or man-made adequate and reliable water supply
sources shall be in accordance with NFPA 1231 Standard on Water Supplies
for Suburban and Rural Fire Fighting, latest edition, and NFPA 24
Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their
Appurtenances, latest edition. Notwithstanding the foregoing, all
storage tanks to be installed pursuant to this section shall be constructed
of fiberglass or other noncorrosive materials and shall be installed
in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. In areas of high
water tables, the tank shall be installed with antiflotation devices
and straps. The tanks shall include securable manholes, and inspections
ports venting shall be provided to allow for 1,500 gallons per minute
discharge. Suction piping and hydrants shall be a minimum of six inches
connected to the bottom of the tank equipped with capital NH threads
sized to the Knowlton Township Hose Company's equipment and specifications
and equipped with tamperproof caps located at an elevation no higher
than 12 feet above the bottom of the tank. All-weather access shall
be provided to the hydrants with adequate impact protection.
For all site plans involving structures exceeding 8,000 cubic
feet, the applicant shall, at his or her expense, install adequate
and reliable water supply sources for fire protection purposes in
accordance with the following criteria:
A. Every structure located on a site plan shall be within 1,000 feet
of an adequate and reliable water supply source.
B. Alternatives.
(1) An adequate and reliable water supply for fire protection shall consist
of the following alternatives:
(a)
Underground storage tank(s) or cisterns.
(b)
Fire ponds or retention basins.
(2) Alternative methods of providing adequate and reliable water supply
source may be submitted by the applicant in lieu of the foregoing
so long as the alternative source has been recommended to the Planning
Board, in writing, by the Fire Subcode Official and the Knowlton Township
Fire Department and is in accordance with acceptable standards as
outlined in NFPA 1231 Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and
Rural Fire Fighting, latest edition, and NFPA 24 Standard for the
Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances,
latest edition.
C. Sizing of all adequate and reliable water supply sources shall be in accordance with Chapters
3, 4, 5 and 6 of NFPA 1231 Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and Rural Fire Fighting, latest edition, and NFPA 24 Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances, latest edition; provided, however, that in no circumstance shall any underground storage tank be less than 10,000 gallons.

D. The installation of man-made adequate and reliable water supply sources and such infrastructure necessary to deliver water to the fire site from either natural or man-made adequate and reliable water supply sources shall be in accordance with NFPA 1231 Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and Rural Fire Fighting, latest edition, and NFPA 24 Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances, latest edition. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the installation of underground storage tanks shall be outlined in §
11-363D above.
For all site plans in zoning districts that authorize planned
building groups, the applicant shall, at his or her expense, install
adequate and reliable water supply sources in accordance with the
following criteria:
A. Each individual structure on site shall have an adequate and reliable water supply source in accordance with the terms of §
11-364 above.
B. The site plan layout of said planned building group shall be in accordance
with the standards specified in NFPA 1141 Standard for Fire Protection
for Planned Group Buildings, latest edition.
C. Planned group building shall be known as two or more structures constructed
on a parcel of land which is under the ownership, control or development
by one individual, corporation, partnership or firm, excluding farms.
