There is hereby created the office of Superintendent of Little Prairie Cemetery who shall in the performance of his or her duties hereunder serve as an independent contractor of the City of Caruthersville. Prior to taking office, the Superintendent shall enter into a written contract in the form approved by the City Council which shall govern the performance of and compensation for the duties to be performed as provided in this Chapter or in the contract.

A. 
The Superintendent of Little Prairie Cemetery shall be charged with the duty of carrying out the orders and directions of the Board of Commissioners. The Superintendent shall also have the following duties and responsibilities:
1. 
General maintenance of the cemetery, to include straightening monuments, filling sunken graves, trimming trees and shrubs, removing old flowers, spraying grass killer and trimming grass near monuments and other handwork necessary to maintain an attractive, well manicured cemetery.
2. 
Mowing to include machinery and labor as may be directed by the Board of Commissioners.
3. 
Opening and closing of all graves to include machinery and labor.
4. 
The sale of available cemetery lots.
5. 
The keeping of a full and accurate register of all burial places and graves sold or designated as free, showing the number of the lot and the name of the person purchasing or receiving the same. Such information shall also be provided to the City Clerk.
6. 
The reporting to the City Clerk of a cemetery record for each burial at Little Prairie Cemetery, including the name of the person buried, the date of the burial and the lot number.
7. 
The Superintendent shall collect and immediately pay over to the City Treasurer all funds received on account of collections made from all sources for the benefit of the Cemetery Fund of the City.
8. 
The Superintendent shall audit and approve all accounts and bills to be allowed by the City Council and paid out of the Cemetery Fund.
