The office of City Marshal is hereby abolished, and the Chief of Police shall assume all of the duties of the abolished office of City Marshal.

The Mayor, with the consent and approval of the majority of the members of the Board of Aldermen, shall appoint a person to serve as Chief of Police.

A. 
The Chief of Police shall, within the corporate limits of the City, have concurrent power with the Sheriff of Jasper County to execute all orders, notices, writs and other process and duties that may be executed by the Sheriff.
B. 
The Chief of Police shall at all times have power to make or order arrests, with proper process for any offenses against the laws of the State or of the City, by day or by night, and bring the offender or offenders to trial before the proper court. He/she shall also have the power to arrest without process in all cases where any such offense shall be committed or attempted to be committed in his/her presence.

The Board of Aldermen shall authorize the number of Police Officers to be appointed to the City Police Department.

A Hiring Board consisting of the Mayor, the Chief of Police and one (1) member of the Board of Aldermen appointed by the Board of Aldermen, shall recommend the best applicants to be hired as Police Officers, and then the Mayor, with the consent and approval of the majority of the members of the Board of Aldermen, shall appoint the best applicant for each position.

All individuals appointed as Police Officers as provided in Sections 115.250 and 115.260 shall be subject to the orders of the Chief of Police and have the same powers of arrest as does the Chief of Police. Said Police Officers shall work under the supervision of the Chief of Police.

All individuals appointed as Police Officers may be removed from office as provided for appointive officers in Section 115.030 of this Code.
