Officers and members of the Fire Department hold their positions
to serve and benefit the public and not for obtaining unwarranted
personal or private gain in the exercise and performance of their
official powers and duties.
Every officer, member and employee of the Fire Department must
disclose the nature of any interest in any matter coming before the
Fire Department or Village Board of Trustees for action.
No officer, member or employee of the Fire Department may hold
the following investments:
A. Personal investments that will be directly affected by the exercise
or performance of the person's official powers and duties; or
B. Personal investments that would otherwise impair the person's independence
of judgment in the exercise of his or her official powers and duties.
No officer, member or employee of the Fire Department may accept
employment which actually impairs or gives the appearance of impairing
the person's independence of judgment in the exercise or performance
of his or her official powers and duties without first notifying the
Fire Department and Village Board of Trustees in writing of such employment.
No officer, member or employee of the Fire Department at any
time after serving as an officer, member or employee of the Fire Department
may appear, practice or render services to another person or organization
in connection with any particular matter in which he or she personally
participated while serving as an officer, member or employee of the
Fire Department, unless disclosed at the time of the appearance, practice
or rendering of the service.
Except as otherwise required by law, no officer, member or employee
of the Fire Department may participate in the discussion or vote on
any matter or exercise or perform any other official powers or duties
in connection with any matter when the officer, member or employee
of the Fire Department may have an interest in the matter.

An amendment to the Code of Ethics must be posted within 10 days following
the date on which the amendment takes effect.
Any officer, member or employee of the Fire Department who violates
this article may be fined, suspended or removed from office, employment
or membership in the Fire Department in a manner provided by law.
A violation of this article is deemed "misconduct" within the meaning
of § 209-1 of General Municipal Law.
If any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section or
part of this chapter or the application thereof to any person, individual,
corporation, firm, partnership, entity or circumstances is adjudged
invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction,
such order or judgment shall be confined in its operation to the clause,
sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section or part of this chapter
or in its application directly involved in the controversy in which
such judgment shall have been rendered and shall not affect or impair
the validity of the remainder of this chapter or the application thereof
to other persons or circumstances. Further, in adjudging such invalid
provision, the court shall attempt to modify same to a provision which
is not invalid or unconstitutional and which best achieves the intent
of the invalid provision.
