There is hereby established a voluntary advisory committee called
the "Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee."
The mission of the Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee shall
be:
A.
To relay
the questions or concerns of veterans of the armed forces who are
residents of Middletown to the governing body;
B.
To provide
information on various federal, state and local programs for which
Middletown's veterans may be eligible and entitled to participate
in; and
C.
To research
and analyze the needs of Middletown's veterans and make recommendations
to the Township Committee regarding how those needs may be best served.
The Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee shall consist of five
members appointed by the Township Committee. At least three members
shall always be veterans of the armed forces. Two of the five founding
members shall serve for terms of three years, two of the five founding
members shall serve for a term of two years, and one of the five founding
members shall serve for a term of one year, after which all shall
serve for staggered terms of three years. Any vacancies shall only
be filled by appointment of the Township Committee for the remainder
of the term of the individual having left the seat vacant.
The Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee is an entirely voluntary
advisory body without any designated budget or support staff, but
may from time to time be permitted to request certain administrative
or financial support for specific projects. Any such request shall
be voted on and approved by a majority of its membership and then
made in writing in the form of a resolution or letter to the Township
Administrator for review and recommendation to the Township Committee
for its consideration based upon the availability of Township resources.
