The City Clerk shall be elected for a four-year term at the
same time the Mayor is elected. If a vacancy occurs in the office
of the City Clerk, it shall be filled by the Mayor with the advice
and consent of the Aldermen; the person so appointed shall hold office
for the unexpired term of the officer elected. He shall receive such
compensation as is set from time to time by ordinance of the City
Council; provided, however, the compensation may not be changed during
his term of office.

The annual salary of the City Clerk shall be increased to $52,000,
effective upon the beginning of the term of office following the 2017
Consolidated Election. Each succeeding May 1 thereafter, the compensation
paid to the City Clerk shall increase in an amount equal to the rate
of increase granted to all City employees. Said compensation shall
be for all services rendered to the City of Hometown, excluding those
rendered in the capacity as ex-officio City Collector, which compensation
shall be affixed in the City's annual budget and appropriation ordinance.
The above compensation does not include benefits or expenses customarily
provided to the City Clerk.
Before entering upon the duties of his office, the City Clerk
shall execute a bond in such amount as provided by law and with such
sureties as may be required by the Council, conditioned upon the faithful
performance of his duties.
The City Clerk shall seal and attest all contracts of the City,
and all licenses, permits and other such documents as shall require
this formality.
The Clerk shall be the keeper of all documents belonging to
the City; and in addition to the record of ordinances and other records
which the Clerk is required by statute to keep, he shall keep a register
of all licenses and permits issued, and a record of the payment thereon.
The Clerk shall turn over all money received by him on behalf
of the City to the City Treasurer; and with such money he shall give
a statement as to the source thereof.
The Clerk shall keep accounts showing all money received by
him, and the source and disposition thereof, and such other accounts
as may be required by statute or ordinance.
The City Clerk shall be ex-officio Collector and he shall collect
all special assessments and special taxes and perform all other duties
of the City Collector as provided by law, and he shall be ex-officio
Water and Sewer Collector and shall perform the duties of that office
as provided by ordinance.
The Clerk shall be the secretary of the Board of Local Improvements,
for which he shall receive no additional salary.
The City Hall shall be the archive and all records, documents,
and papers not being currently used by the City Clerk shall be kept
there.
