There is hereby created the office of City Attorney, who shall be appointed by the Mayor and the Aldermen voting jointly. (Referendum 11-2-1982)
(A) 
The City Attorney shall be the legal advisor of the City and to all its departments, boards and commissions, and shall render advice on all legal questions affecting the City, whenever requested to do so by any City official.
(B) 
He shall draft any contracts, leases or other documents or instruments to which the City may be a party and he shall draft all ordinances and resolutions covering subjects within the powers of the municipality.
(C) 
He shall prosecute or defend any and all suits or actions at law or equity in all courts of record to which the City may be a party.
The City Attorney shall receive that compensation which shall be set from time to time by the City Council.
There is hereby created the Office of City Prosecutor.
The City Prosecutor shall be appointed by the Mayor and the Aldermen voting jointly. The City Prosecutor shall be an attorney duly licensed to practice in the state. He shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the City Attorney and report to him on all legal matters connected with his office. (Referendum 11-2-1982)
The City Prosecutor shall prosecute all violations of the traffic ordinances of the City and the uniform act regulating traffic of the state and shall prosecute all other Code violations upon the written or oral direction of the City Attorney.
The City Prosecutor shall make such reports as may be required from time to time by the Mayor or by the Aldermen.
The compensation of the City Prosecutor shall be as prescribed by the City Council.
