As used in this article, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD BACKGROUND CHECK
A determination of whether a person has a criminal record
by cross referencing that person's name and fingerprints with
those on file with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification
Division, and the State Bureau of Identification in the Division of
State Police.
The Director of Public Safety is authorized to request a criminal
history record background check of any person for an official government
purpose, including, without limitation, employment, licensing and
the procurement of services.
Any person seeking employment with the Township must consent
to a criminal history background check to be conducted through the
State Bureau of Investigation. The Township shall be responsible for
the cost of the criminal history background check. Such applicants
shall fully complete Form SBI-212B (available at the Police Department).
Applicants who are requested to submit the required Form SBI-212B
and fail to do so or otherwise refuse to consent to or cooperate in
securing a criminal history background check shall not be considered
for employment.
The Director of Public Safety shall receive and review the results of the criminal history background checks and either approve or disapprove an applicant for employment. When reviewing a record with one or more convictions, the Township Administrator shall consider the criteria set forth in Article
I, §
12-8B.
