A. 
A petition for referendum with respect to an ordinance or part of an ordinance may consist of several pages or parts, but each page or part shall contain the full text of the ordinance or part thereof that is the subject of the referendum petition, or a fair and accurate summary of such ordinance or part thereof. There shall be attached to each page of the petition an affidavit of the person who has procured the signatures thereon, attesting that the signatures were affixed in his or her presence and that, to the best of such person's knowledge and belief, every signature on the paper is genuine and bona fide and that the signers are registered Town voters residing at the addresses set forth opposite or below their names.
B. 
A person procuring signatures and signing an affidavit must also be a registered voter for the Town of Chesapeake Beach.
A. 
Upon receipt of a petition for referendum, the Town Clerk shall immediately forward the petition to the Board of Elections, which shall:
(1) 
Verify that the signatures are valid as to voter registration;
(2) 
Verify that the petition bears the signatures of the required 20% of Town voters as indicated on the previous election day based upon the Maryland universal registration system (the percentage of petitioners to be rounded up to the nearest whole number); and

(3) 
Notify the Town Council, VIA the Town Clerk, of the receipt of a valid petition.
B. 
The Board of Elections shall validate signatures on the petition using the voter registry. If the exact first name, last name, date of birth and address are not found on either of the lists comprising the registry, the signature will not be validated. If a nickname or initial is used in place of a first name, the Board of Elections, by majority vote, will accept or reject the signature based on information that matches.
