The Town shall accept the provisions of MGL c. 40, § 8B, and establish under the chapter and section a Council on Aging, to be composed of seven members[1] appointed by the Selectboard for terms of three years.

The duties of the Council shall be to:
A. 
Identify the total needs of the community's elderly population, educate the community and enlist support and participation of all citizens concerning these needs.
B. 
Design, promote or implement services to fill these needs or coordinate present existing services in the community.
C. 
Promote and support any other programs in the community.
Said Council shall cooperate with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Elder Affairs, and shall be cognizant of all state and federal legislation concerning funding, information, exchange and program planning which exists for better community programming for the elderly.
Said Council on Aging shall give an annual report to the Selectboard, with a copy of that report directed to the Commonwealth Department of Elder Affairs.

The names, addresses, telephone numbers, or other identifying information about elderly persons in the possession of the Council shall not be public records, but the use of these records shall comply with MGL c. 19A, §§ 14 to 24, inclusive, as a condition of receiving a government contract, program grant or other benefit, or as otherwise required by law.
