§ 470-7 Maximum speed limits on certain streets.

A. The following maximum speed limits are established:

B. No person shall drive a vehicle upon any part of any street listed above at a greater rate of speed than the maximum speed limit prescribed for that part of the street. Any person who violates any provision of this section shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $35 and costs. Any person exceeding a maximum speed limit by more than five miles per hour shall pay an additional fine of $2 for each mile in excess of five miles per hour over the maximum speed limit.

§ 470-8 Traffic signals at certain intersections.

A. At the following intersections, official traffic signals as indicated below shall be erected (or are ratified if previously erected), and traffic at those locations shall be directed by those signals:

B. Any driver of a vehicle who disobeys the directions of a traffic signal shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 and costs.

§ 470-9 Intersections where turn prohibited on red signal.

A. The following are established as intersections where drivers of vehicles are prohibited from making a right turn on a steady red signal:

§ 470-10 One-way streets established.

A. The following are established as one-way streets, and on the days and between the hours applicable to a particular roadway, it shall be unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle upon a one-way street other than in the direction established for traffic upon that street:

§ 470-11 Through highways established.

A. The following highways are established as through highways, and stop or yield signs shall be erected at every intersection of every through highway (except those intersections where traffic control signals are erected and maintained as provided in § 470-8 of this article), facing traffic approaching the through highway on all intersecting streets. Every driver of a vehicle approaching the through highway on any intersecting highway where there is a stop or yield sign shall stop the vehicle as required by § 3323(b) or 3323(c) of the Vehicle Code, as the case may be, and shall not proceed into or across the through highway until he has followed the requirements of that section of the law:

§ 470-12 Stop intersections established.

A. The following intersections (in addition to streets intersecting with the through highways established by § 470-11 of this article) are established as stop intersections, and official stop signs shall be erected (or are ratified if previously erected) in such a position as to face traffic approaching the second-named street upon the first-named street in the direction or directions indicated for that intersection. Every driver of a vehicle approaching the intersection upon the first-named street, in the direction indicated in each case, shall stop the vehicle as required by § 3323(b) of the Vehicle Code and shall not proceed into or across the second-named street until he has followed all applicable requirements of that section of the law:

B. Any person who violates any provision of this section shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 and costs.

§ 470-13 Yield intersections established.

A. The following intersections (in addition to streets intersecting with the through highways established in § 470-11 of this article) are established as yield intersections, and official yield signs shall be erected (or are ratified if previously erected) in such a position as to face traffic approaching the second-named street upon the first-named street at each yield intersection, in the direction or directions indicated for that intersection. Every driver of a vehicle approaching the intersection upon the first-named street, in the direction indicated in each case, shall slow down or stop the vehicle as required by § 3323(c) of the Vehicle Code and then yield the right-of-way as required by that subsection of the Vehicle Code:

§ 470-14 Truck routes established; truck traffic restricted on all other streets.

A. The following streets and portions of streets are established as truck routes:

B. All other streets and portions of streets are set aside for the use of passenger vehicles only. It shall be unlawful for any person to drive a truck on any street or portion of street not listed above as a truck route, except that nothing shall prohibit the operation of any commercial vehicle or truck on any street not designated as a truck route where that operation is necessary in order to pick up or deliver any goods, wares, merchandise or material from or to any premises located on that street not designated as a truck route.

C. Any person who violates any provision of this section shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 and costs.

§ 470-15 Rotary traffic islands established.

[Amended 11-6-1978 by Ord. No. 9-1978]

A. The following are designated as rotary traffic islands, and every vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island shall be driven only to the right of the island:

B. Any person who drives a vehicle otherwise than to the right of a rotary traffic island shall be guilty of a violation of this section and, upon conviction, shall be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 and costs.

§ 470-16 Vehicle weight limit established on First Street.

A. The word "highway," as used in this chapter, including the preamble, shall mean and include the entire width between the boundary lines of a way publicly maintained and open to the use of the public for vehicular traffic, and commonly referred to as "street," "lane," "avenue," "road" or "alley."

B. A gross vehicular weight of 10 tons (20,000 pounds) is imposed upon that portion of First Street in the Borough of Vandergrift extending from the intersection of Pennsylvania State Route 0056 and First Street east for a distance of 1,360 feet, more or less, to the intersection of First Street and Eighth Street (commonly known as "First Street"), and it shall be unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle or combination with gross weight in excess of 10 tons (20,000 pounds) upon that portion of First Street, provided that emergency vehicles shall be exempt from the restrictions in this section.

C. Any person who violates any provision of Subsection B of this section shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $150 plus an additional $150 for each 500 pounds, or part thereof, in excess of 3,000 pounds over the maximum allowable weight.
