A.
Except as otherwise provided herein, and provided that Sections 3362(a)(1.2) and 6109(e) of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code are not amended regarding the establishment of the maximum speed limit on nonnumbered traffic routes functionally classified as a local highway located within residential districts, it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to drive or operate any truck, passenger car, motorcycle, or other automobile or motor vehicle at a speed in excess of 25 miles per hour over or upon all future nonnumbered traffic routes functionally classified as a local highway located within residential districts within Wrightstown Township.
B.
Upon the enactment of a resolution by the Board of Supervisors naming a nonnumbered traffic route functionally classified as a local highway within a residential district and the posting of 25 miles per hour speed limit signage as required by the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, the maximum speed limit of 25 miles per hour shall be established for that roadway.
3.
Speed Limit Signs to Be Installed. The Township Roadmaster is hereby authorized and directed to erect official signs giving notice of the maximum 25 miles per hour speed limitation, in accordance with Section 3362(b) of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code. The speed limits established hereby shall become effective upon the posting of speed limit signage as required by the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.
4.
Exemptions to the Maximum Speed Limit. The speed limitations set forth in this section shall not apply to vehicles, when operated with due regard for safety, under the direction of the police in the chase or apprehension of violators of the law, or of person charged with or suspected of any such violation, nor to responders to fire alarms, or operators of emergency vehicles when traveling in emergencies. The exemption shall not, however, protect the operators of any such vehicle from the consequences of reckless disregard of the safety of others.
5.
Penalty. Any person who violates any provision of this section shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $35 and costs. Any person exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than five miles per hour shall pay an additional fine of $2 per mile for each mile in excess of five miles per hour over the maximum speed limit.
