As used in this Article, the following terms shall have these prescribed meanings:
BRICK
Rectangular prismatic units which are used as a facing component that are applied over or anchored to an exterior wall backing. Brick shall be manufactured from clay, shale or similar naturally occurring earth substances and kiln fired. Brick shall be solid units, having a minimum thickness of two and five-eighths (2 5/8) inches and meeting all the requirements of ASTM Designation C-216, Standard Specification for Facing Brick.
NATURAL BUILDING STONE
Granite, limestone, marble, slate, soapstone, sandstone or other natural stones of similar characteristics and physical properties which are used as a facing component that are applied over or anchored to an exterior wall backing.
Materials specifically excluded from the definitions of brick and stone shall include, but are not limited to, all hollow masonry units exceeding five (5) inches in height and sixteen (16) inches in length, facing tile, customized architectural concrete masonry units, ceramic glazed facing brick, all concrete masonry units, plastic and/or composite blocks, molded, cast or otherwise artificially aggregated stone type units composed of fragments, metal panels, all exterior insulation finish systems, "Novabrik," precast concrete panels or any composition panels and all cast-in-place concrete walls and tilt-up concrete panels.

A. 
All single-family and duplex residential buildings constructed after the effective date of this Chapter shall have exterior finished walls, excluding foundations, built with brick or stone, as defined in this Article, on all first floor and upper floor levels on the front and both side elevations in all residential zoning districts within the City. However, residential buildings constructed on corner lots shall have exterior finished walls built with brick or stone, as defined in this Article, on a minimum of ninety percent (90%) of the facade on all four (4) sides, excluding foundations.
B. 
All commercial buildings considered as retail, shopping, office, professional, educational, institutional and mercantile type as defined in the Building Code[1] constructed after the effective date of this Chapter shall have exterior finished walls built with brick or stone, as defined in this Article, excluding foundations, on a minimum of ninety percent (90%) of the facade on the front and both side elevations and in accordance with the following:
1. 
On the rear elevation, concrete masonry units may be substituted for brick or stone.
2. 
Windows and doors shall be excluded from the calculation of the facade size.
3. 
Building construction regulated by this Section constructed on corner lots shall have exterior finished walls built with brick or stone, as defined in this Article, on a minimum of ninety percent (90%) of the facade on all four (4) sides, excluding foundations.
4. 
Front porches, whether newly added or renovated, shall be constructed principally of brick or stone, with concrete flatwork for the horizontal surface. Except for a roof or overhang, no wooden, composite, or vinyl construction is permitted. Railings and handrails shall be of wrought iron or aluminum material. A. 
The regulations of this Chapter shall not apply to the construction of the following:
1. 
Accessory structures;
2. 
Additions to any wood, aluminum or vinyl sided or similarly sided single-family or duplex residences;
3. 
Additions to any brick faced single-family or duplex residences where the addition is less than thirty-three percent (33%) of the total square footage of the existing residence;
4. 
Commercial structures considered as factory, warehouse or other type not named in Section 415.120 of this Chapter.
