The Borough of Sharpsburg hereby recognizes the Sharpsburg Volunteer
Fire Company, which has been organized by the residents of said Borough
of Sharpsburg.
The Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company be and the same is hereby
given all power, so far as the Borough of Sharpsburg has power to
grant the same, to enact such rules and regulations for the management
and government of individual members thereof as shall be necessary
for the proper maintenance and control of said volunteer fire company.
The members of Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company may elect from
their number such officers as may be provided by the bylaws of the
fire company.
All appropriations made by the Borough of Sharpsburg to or for
the use of said fire company, whether of money or property, and all
equipment purchased by the Borough of Sharpsburg for the fire company
shall continue to be the property of the Borough of Sharpsburg, and
none of the fire apparatus or equipment so belonging to the Borough
of Sharpsburg shall be permanently removed from the Borough without
consent of the Borough Council thereof.

The Council of the Borough of Sharpsburg hereby grants authorization
to the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company to engage in fund-raising
activities, such as fairs, carnivals, bingo, banquets, barbecues,
donkey baseball and other similar fund-raising activities the Fire
Company (ambulance corps) officers deem necessary for the efficient
operation of the company. Authorization is also granted for the Fire
Company (ambulance corps) to participate in firemen's training schools,
conventions, meetings and civic functions of the type customarily
attended by or participated in by volunteer fire company members.
Authorization is hereby given to the Fire Chief or other officer
in charge at the scene of an emergency to deputize a bystander, requested
by said officer to lend assistance in the emergency, as a member of
this Fire Company or Fire Department. By this act of deputizing a
bystander, it is understood that he shall become eligible for all
the benefits available to other members of this Fire Company or Fire
Department should he suffer an injury or illness as a result of his
voluntary service. In order to be eligible for such benefits he must
have been specifically requested or authorized to participate by the
Fire Chief or other officer in charge at the scene of the emergency.
