Members shall not violate their oath of office. They shall obey
all laws, regulations, orders, commands and instructions governing
members of the uniformed force. Such obedience shall be prompt, implicit
and unqualified.
Officers shall be just, dignified and firm in effecting discipline
and compliance with regulations and, when necessary, shall take disciplinary
action in accordance with such regulations. Officers shall always
be addressed and referred to by their proper titles of rank during
all duty assignments.
Members shall, in matters of general conduct, be governed by
rules of good behavior observed by law-abiding, self-respecting citizens.
They shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner which will
not bring reproach or reflect discredit upon the Department.
Members shall, when reporting on sick leave, notify or cause
to be notified their superior officer. Members are directed to report
on sick leave at least 30 minutes prior to their duty assignment.
Members in uniform or when on duty shall not at any time indulge
in or be under the influence of intoxicating alcohol or illegal drugs.
Members shall not bring alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs into
Department buildings or property. Members shall not report for duty
under the influence of intoxicating beverages or drugs.
Members shall immediately notify their superior officer of any
change of address or telephone number.
Members will not be permitted to smoke while responding to,
working at or returning from an alarm of fire or duty assignment,
except by express permission of the officer in charge.
Members shall not, except while on department business or visiting
places of public worship (restaurants may be another exception), wear
uniforms or any part thereof at any place of public assembly, amusement,
entertainment or while doing private business, without the approval
of the Fire Chief.
Officers shall, at all times, be observant of the conduct of
members in uniform. Any conduct or action in violation of regulations
shall be carefully noted for appropriate disciplinary action.
Members shall perform the tasks or duties assigned to them by
the officers in command for that tour of duty. Failure to comply with
assignments shall be termed "insubordination" and "dereliction of
duty."
Members shall not make a false entry, statement, report or record
with intent to deceive.
Members shall not use indecent, profane or uncivil language
or be guilty of immoral or indecent conduct.
Members shall not damage any department property nor handle
apparatus or equipment in a careless or reckless manner.
Gambling of every kind is strictly prohibited in any fire station.
No individual soliciting for gambling purposes shall be permitted
on any Fire Department property, and no member of the Fire Department
shall meet, consort, negotiate or speak with any individual soliciting
for gambling purposes on or from any Fire Department property.
Members shall not solicit or accept any compensation, reward
or consideration for services or donation as a member of the Department
without the approval of the Mayor and Common Council.
Members shall not give presents to any other member of the Department
for the purpose of seeking favor.
Members shall not lend, sell or give away any Department property,
except that in emergencies. Department property may be loaned to members
of the Department or other City departments and all other persons
with permission of the Fire Chief All items loaned must be signed
out in the loan record book.
Members may trade tours or parts of tours of duty with other
members with the permission of their superior officer, provided that
both members are equally skilled.
Beds in company quarters may be used by members between 2200
hours and 0700 hours.
All members of the Fire Department shall maintain themselves
in good physical condition.
A telephone number shall be required for each officer.
