This article shall be known as the "Town Clerk Term of Office Law of the Town of Perinton."
This article is enacted pursuant to the authority contained in the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York.
The term of office of the elected Town Clerk shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence as of the first day of January 2018, and shall apply to the person elected to such office at the biennial Town election to be held on November 7, 2017, and to those elected thereafter, provided a proposition submitted pursuant to § 35-4 below is approved.
This article is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and shall be submitted for approval by the qualified voters of the Town of Perinton at the election to be held on November 7, 2017. A proposition in the following form shall be included on the ballot at such election, and the increased term of office shall not take effect unless such proposition is approved by a majority of the voters voting thereon.[1]

This article shall supersede Town Law § 24 relating to the term of office for the Town Clerk of the Town of Perinton.
If this article is approved by the affirmative vote of the majority of the qualified voters of the Town of Perinton voting thereon at the November 2017 biennial election, this article shall become and be effective immediately.
