There may be established the Office of Director of Economic Development, who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Board of Aldermen. The Director shall be chosen on the basis of analytical and organizational skills, as well as education and training, with special reference to experience in or knowledge of accepted practices pertaining to the duties of the office. The Director may be removed from this position by the Board of Aldermen.

A. 
The Director of Economic Development, under the supervision of the Board of Aldermen, shall have charge of:
1. 
The identification of potential government, nonprofit, and private sources of funding that could aid the City in meeting long-term development and sustainability goals;
2. 
The preparation of grant applications to appropriate funding sources to obtain funds for specific City projects and development and sustainability programs;
3. 
The administrative and management aspects of any grant funds which are required by funding sources;
4. 
The establishment of programs, initiatives, campaigns, or partnerships that can aid the City in achieving development and sustainability goals;
5. 
The periodic reporting to the Board of Aldermen of grant identification and application efforts and other activities pursued by the Director of Economic Development;
6. 
In addition to the powers enumerated herein, the Director of Economic Development shall have the powers delegated to such position or subordinate positions by ordinances of the City and such other duties as may be assigned by the City Board of Aldermen.
