No person shall discharge any gun, pistol, firearm, air pipe,
blowpipe, air gun, spring gun, bow gun or crossbow in any of the streets,
highways or parks in the Town, provided that this section shall not
apply to the use of such weapons in the lawful defense of the person,
family or property of anyone or in the performance of any duty required
by law, or ceremonial salutes. The firing of a salute of cannon or
artillery may be allowed by permission of the Town Council with the
consent of the Mayor.
No person shall discharge any gun, pistol, firearm, air pipe,
blowpipe, air gun, spring gun, bow gun or crossbow within 1,000 feet
of a dwelling or other building in use, except with the consent of
the owner or legal occupant thereof, provided that this section shall
not apply to the use of such weapons in the lawful defense of the
person, family or property of anyone or in the performance of any
duty required by law, or ceremonial salutes. The firing of a salute
of cannon or artillery may be allowed by permission of the Town Council
with the consent of the Mayor. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a property
that is appropriately zoned for such use and for which a certificate
of occupancy has been issued by the Building Commissioner is not subject
to this prohibition to the extent the property is being appropriately
used pursuant to the certificate of occupancy.
No steel-pointed darts or -pointed missiles shall be sold at
retail within the limits of the Town to any persons less than 16 years
of age.
No steel knives, machetes or swords with a blade length of six
inches or more shall be sold at retail within the limits of the Town
to any person less than 16 years of age.
No person shall project, by means of any air pipe, blowpipe,
air gun, spring gun, bow gun or crossbow, any object whatever in or
into any public street, highway, park, avenue or place within the
Town.
No person shall sell or expose for sale within the limits of
the Town firearms, ammunition or explosive devices which have been
rendered inoperable, until first obtaining a license to do so issued
by the Chief of Police or his/her designee.
The penalties for violation of this chapter shall be $50 for
each offense and/or confiscation of said items.
