[Adopted 9-14-2015 by L.L. No. 1-2015]
Sandwich board signs shall be permitted in C-1 and C-2 Districts
only.
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General
Provisions, Art. I)]
Signs are allowed by permit only, subject to payment of an annual
fee as set from time to time by resolution of the Board of Trustees.
Permits must be renewed annually through the Village Clerk-Treasurer
only if the business is in good standing relative to payment of real
property taxes, water and sewer fees.
Signs must be made of a hard plastic-type material so that they
can be uniform for all businesses. Plywood signs, other unsightly
signs and any signs that might detract from the overall appearance
and safety of the community are prohibited.
Signs shall not exceed 36 inches high and 36 inches wide.
The sign must be weighted down to prevent movement or a knockdown
from wind. It will be the business owner's responsibility to
use discretion as to whether to put the sign out any particular day.
Signs can be displayed during business hours only, with maximum
permitted display from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Only one sign per business is allowed. No more than two signs
per building are allowed.
If there is no sidewalk in front of the business and/or the
sidewalk is not wide enough to allow pedestrians to walk safely, no
sign will be allowed to be displayed.
The following will be considered infractions of this article:
A. Signs that interfere with pedestrian or vehicle traffic or vehicle
parking.
B. Signs that are left outside overnight.
C. Signs that are repeatedly and habitually blown out into the street
or endanger the safety of pedestrians and/or interfere with unobstructed
pedestrian travel.
D. Signs that do not meet the standards as stated in §§
215-4 and
215-5 above.
E. Signs that do not have a permit through the Village or their permit
has expired.
F. Signs that are worn, broken or considered a danger to the public.
G. Signs that may be snow-covered, obscured or otherwise not visible
to the general public.
[Added at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions,
Art. I)]
Signs shall meet all requirements of the New York State Uniform
Fire Prevention and Building Code, wherever applicable.
All sandwich board sign applicants assume sole responsibility
for any personal liability, damage or injury resulting from any of
the above infractions.
The permit season will run from June 1 to May 31.
