Sandwich signs are allowable as provided in this article in District 11 on private property fronting Silver Spring Drive. Sandwich signs are prohibited in all other locations in the Village of Whitefish Bay pursuant to Chapter 16, Zoning, Article VII, Signs. The following provisions shall regulate Sandwich Signs in District 11:
A. 
A sandwich sign is a self-supporting, A-shaped, freestanding portable sign with only two visible sign faces that contain speech. For the purposes of the regulation of sandwich signs in the Village of Whitefish Bay, a "sandwich sign" is also known as a "sandwich board sign," a "portable sign," an "A board" sign, or an "H" frame sign.
B. 
Sandwich signs shall be limited to 10 total square feet per sign face with the width of a sign face not exceeding 2.5 feet and the height of a sign face not exceeding four feet when open.
C. 
One sandwich sign is allowed for each leaseholder or property owner.
D. 
Sandwich signs may not be illuminated or reflective. Damaged or poorly maintained sandwich signs may not be placed outdoors within the Village.
E. 
Sandwich signs may only be displayed during the hours in which the leaseholder or property owner displaying the sandwich sign is present and must be stored indoors when not in use.
F. 
Sandwich signs may only be located on private property fronting Silver Spring Drive at the primary entrance of the business displaying the sign in District 11.
G. 
The location of a sandwich sign may not obstruct access to:
(1) 
Accessibility ramps for persons with disabilities.
(2) 
Building exits.
H. 
Sandwich signs may not be attached or anchored in any way to trees, buildings or public property. The prohibited means of attachment or anchoring include by chains, cords, rope, wire, or cable. "Public property" includes utility or light poles, parking meters, the ground, or pavement.
I. 
Sandwich signs may only be displayed in District 11 on private property fronting Silver Spring Drive between North Lydell Avenue and North Danbury Road.
J. 
A sandwich sign may be removed by the Village if it interferes with any Village activities or public safety (for instance, but not limited to, snow removal activities and sidewalk maintenance).
Violation of this article or rules adopted pursuant thereto shall be subject to the general penalty provided in Chapter 17, Village Code and Ordinances, Article III, General Penalty, of the Code of the Village of Whitefish Bay or such other penalty as the Village Board may specify from time to time.
