The Select Board shall be, and shall act as, the agents of the Town to institute, prosecute, defend, or compromise any and all claims, actions, and proceedings on behalf of or against the Town or in which the interest of the Town may be involved.

The Select Board shall have custody of the law library of the Town.
The Select Board shall have authority to employ counsel for the conduct and defense of suits or other proceedings to which the Town is a party or in which its interest may be involved, or for advice in the conduct of their office in relation to important matters, affecting the interests of the Town.

The Select Board shall have all the powers and duties of a Board of Selectmen for any lawful purpose, including but not limited to for purposes of the Massachusetts General Laws, these bylaws and special acts applicable to the Town of Ayer.
